Sidebar
Through teaching and research, the University of Louisville School of Dentistry Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) helps students and residents develop into ethical dental professionals who are scientifically based, technically competent, diagnostically skilled, socially responsible, behaviorally proficient and committed to continued professional growth.
The department also provides high-quality patient care to the community, region, and commonwealth through the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency. Through affiliation with UofL Health University Hospital and Norton Children's Hospital (the two Level One Trauma Centers in Louisville), residents and faculty see the region's most challenging cases from Kentucky and seven surrounding states.
In addition, department faculty collaborate and consult with faculty from across the school's various departments and divisions on treatment planning — especially in complex cases involving a surgical component.
Department chair: George Kushner DMD, MD, FACS, FACD, RCSEd
A professor in the OMS department, Dr. Kushner is a diplomat, fellow or member of the world's leading professional organizations for oral and maxillofacial surgery and musculoskeletal surgery. He lectures worldwide and publishes his research frequently.
